CE requirements for Florida RNs. 1. Mandated hours: RNs are required to complete 24 hours of CE during each two-year renewal period. 2. License Renewal Deadline: RNs’ licenses are renewed by the Florida Board of Nursing (BON) in three groups with current licenses expiring in April or July.
Florida nurses are required to complete at least 24 hours of CE every renewal. All Florida nurses must complete the following courses for each renewal: Florida Laws and Rules, Medical Errors, & Human Trafficking. If it is your first time renewing a Florida nursing license, you must complete at least 1 hour of CE covering HIV/AIDs.
For license renewal, RNs must complete: 2 hours of medical errors; 2 hours in Florida laws and rules; 2 hours of recognizing impairment in the workplace; 2 hours of human trafficking training; In addition to these 24 hours of general CE, each RN must complete 2 hours of domestic violence CE every third renewal for a total of 26 hours.
Licensees of the Florida Board of Nursing are required to renew their licenses biennially in order to maintain the right to practice. A mandatory final examination with a passing score of 70% or higher is required for each course. Next license group renewal deadline: April 30, 2025.
