Generally, you can only drop Part A if you have to pay a premium for it, also called Premium-Part A. You can choose to drop Part B. There are two ways to drop coverage.

The only way you can do so is to withdraw your application for retirement or disability benefits at this time — or, if you’ve already been drawing those benefits, to repay the government for all the payments you’ve already received.

You may cancel Medicare Part A or Part B by calling 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778). As your health insurance needs change, you may find yourself in a position where you wish to cancel your Medicare coverage.
