I know that XP only officially supports Java versions up to Jre7u80, not Java 8+, and I know that the newest versions of Minecraft require Java 8+. As long as you're running your server on your own PC, your friends will need your network's IP address to connect. You can technically change it, but it will always lead to your computer.
