Anti-mite creams can be used as well as anti-inflammatory creams and corticosteroid creams. Your veterinarian may also recommend using benzoyl peroxide on larger areas.
Treatment of demodectic mange is generally successful. However, if the immune system is weakened, neither the mites nor the infection may respond to treatment. With generalized demodicosis, successful treatment may take a long time and may require regular skin scrapings to assess the progress of the treatment.
27 Οκτ 2021 · In contrast, generalized demodicosis may require a long, or multi-faceted treatment process. Spot-on treatments and medicated baths or dips can be used to help reduce mite numbers. Certain oral medications, such as antiparasitics, antibiotics, and anti-inflammatories, may also be necessary.
In most dogs, demodicosis has a good prognosis for cure as long as underlying diseases are identified and treated properly. Treatment should be monitored monthly with multiple skin scrapings and extended beyond clinical and microscopic cure to minimize recurrences.

Generalized demodectic mange, on the other hand, may require lifelong treatments and check-ups with your veterinarian.
Diagnosis of Demodectic Mange in Dogs. Owners who notice their pet developing bald patches, excessive skin oiliness and irritation should see a veterinarian as soon as possible, as the condition is easier to treat if it is caught before symptoms become too severe.
Nonapproved but effective and safe treatments include selamectin (6 mg/kg, spot-on) and moxidectin (1 mg/kg, spot-on, in the imidacloprid-moxidectin formulation). Ivermectin (200 mcg/kg, SC) has also been used. Another effective topical therapy is lime sulfur dips at 7-day intervals.
