Attitude can also be described as the way we evaluate something or someone. For example, we tend to respond positively or negatively about certain subjects.
Attitude theory refers to the study and understanding of the various theoretical and empirical aspects of attitudes within the field of social psychology. It explores topics such as the formation and change of attitudes, different measures of attitudes, and the relationship between attitude structure and strength.
Historically speaking, attitude is one of Jung’s 57 definitions of psychological types. Jung’s definition of attitude is a “readiness of the psyche to act or react in a certain way” (Jung 1921/1971, p. 687). Attitudes very often come in pairs, one conscious and the other unconscious.
Attitudes influence behavior at individual, interpersonal, and societal levels. [ 1 ]: 13–16 Attitudes are complex and are acquired through life experience and socialization. Key topics in the study of attitudes include attitude strength, attitude change, and attitude-behavior relationships.
3 Φεβ 2024 · Attitude refers to an individual’s overall evaluation of people, objects, and things. The attitude of an individual has a wide influence on their thoughts, feelings, and behavior. Therefore, attitude has remained an indispensable core subject of research in social psychology since the inception of this discipline.
The first context is the person, as attitudes change in connection to values, general goals, language, emotions, and human development. The second context is social relationships, which link attitude change to the communicator of persuasive messages, social media, and culture.
Attitudes refer to general evaluations people have regarding people, places, objects, and issues. Attitudes serve a number of important functions such as guiding choices and actions and giving people a sense of identity and belonging.
