ns-3 has been developed to provide an open, extensible network simulation platform, for networking research and education. In brief, ns-3 provides models of how packet data networks work and perform, and provides a simulation engine for users to conduct simulation experiments. Some of the reasons to use ns-3 include to perform studies
Network simulation provides this exibility. This paper gives an overview on the network simulator ns-3. In addition to that, ns-3 is compared to OMNeT++ another well known network simulator and other measurement methods using real or emulated hardware.
For many years, the venerable ns–2 network simulation tool[81] was the de–facto standard for academic research into networking protocols and com-munications methods. Countless research papers were written reporting re-sults obtained using ns–2, and hundreds of new models were written and contributed to the ns–2 code base.
As networks of computing devices grow larger and more complex, the need for highly accurate and scalable network simulation technologies becomes critical.
