NHTSA's 5-Star Safety Ratings help you make smart decisions about safety when buying a car. Compare vehicles, and search car seat and tire ratings.
To qualify for 2024 Top Safety Pick, a vehicle must earn good ratings in the small overlap front, original moderate overlap front and updated side tests. Acceptable or good headlights must come standard across all trim levels, and the vehicle must earn an acceptable or good rating in the pedestrian front crash prevention test.
Vehicles that perform best in our evaluations qualify for Top Safety Pick, which has been awarded since the 2006 model year, or Top Safety Pick +, which was inaugurated in 2013. These awards identify the best vehicle choices for safety within size categories during a given year.
NHTSA’s 5-Star Safety Ratings help consumers compare vehicle safety when searching for a car. More stars mean safer cars. Combines driver and front passenger frontal barrier ratings into a single frontal rating. The frontal barrier test simulates a head-on collision between two similar vehicles.
