Rod R. Blagojevich (/ bləˈɡɔɪ.əvɪtʃ / blə-GOY-ə-vitch; born December 10, 1956), often referred to by his nickname " Blago ", [2][3] is an American politician who served as the 40th governor of Illinois from 2003 to 2009. He was impeached, removed from office, convicted, and incarcerated for eight years on federal charges of public corruption.
He became the Democratic nominee for governor of Illinois in the 2018 gubernatorial election after winning a crowded primary election. He defeated Republican incumbent Bruce Rauner in the general election on November 6, 2018, and took office on January 14, 2019. [1] Pritzker was reelected on November 8, 2022. [6]
