Disabled Parking Placards. If you have a qualifying temporary or permanent disability you may be eligible for a disabled parking placard. New regulations will no longer allow a person with a disability parking placard to automatically qualify for meter-exempt parking in cities and municipalities.
The meter-exempt parking certification must be completed only when the applicant qualifies. To qualify, the applicant MUST have a VALID Illinois driver’s license, have an ambulatory disability described in Part 3, and also have one of the following conditions listed below.
Drivers with disabilities in Illinois can apply for disabled parking placards or license plates from the Illinois Office of the Secretary of State (SOS). The SOS issues permanent placards, temporary placards, organization placards, and disability license plates.
