The Illinois state assessment evidence statements and learning standards were added with points and percentages of scores so districts can align instruction and assessment with the priority standards and evidence statements identified.
The Illinois Learning Standards provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn, so teachers and parents know what they need to do to help them.

Based on the NRC Document A Framework for K-12 Science Education, these standards are intended to engage students in science and engineering practices to explain natural phenomena and solve problems, much like real world scientists and engineers.
The competent teacher plans and designs instruction based on content area knowledge, diverse student characteristics, student performance data, curriculum goals, and the community context. The teacher plans for ongoing student growth and achievement.
