MRC’s Bye Bye Mattress is accessible, offering California residents no-cost opportunities to discard their used mattresses. Statewide, 99 percent of all residents live within 15 miles of a Bye Bye Mattress collection site or event. There are more than 230 permanent drop-off locations and 100 collection events held annually.

California state law adds a small fee to the sale of mattresses and box springs that is used to fund their collection and recycling. California residents will receive a $3 reimbursement when they recycle them at participating facilities. Learn more or find a collection site near you.
The Western Placer Waste Management Authority (WPWMA) has joined a growing list of the Mattress Recycling Council (MRC)’s Bye Bye Mattress program collection site participants. Beginning February 1, 2023, the WPWMA will accept old mattresses and box springs from the public every day, for free.
Acceptance of eligible mattresses for free at OC landfills and by OC waste haulers is made possible through the Bye Bye Mattress Program administered by the Mattress Recycling Council. California law requires retailers to collect a recycling fee on each mattress and box spring sold.
Your weekly curbside pickup service may offer a free pickup of bulky items, right from your curb. Electronics Computing equipment, small appliances and other electronic devices can contain components that are harmful to our earth, air and water if disposed of improperly.
