Published by the Indian Institute of Art in Industry, this book illustrates five thousand traditional designs and motifs of different regions in India. The book intends to inspire designers and artists through its subject of Indian decorative art.
According to existing literature, the design culture is prominently dominated by two different approaches—‘non-rhetoric design’ and ‘story-telling design’. This paper discusses the latter, with focus on craft and narrative (the analysis of narrative is an important branch of semiotics).
The design thinking tools derived from ancient India can be integrated by the new age designers in their design process to strengthen ideation in order to take innovation to higher level and address various problems that the present world is facing.
