From the start, Interlochen Arts Camp (as it is now known) attracted high profile musicians and artists, such as John Philips Sousa, pictured here during a visit in 1930.
History. Score sheets at Interlochen's Music Library in the 1940s. Early settlement. Beginning in the late 19th century, European settlers began logging and fishing industries in the area, and founded the small village of Wylie, one mile south of the present-day community of Interlochen.
11 Δεκ 2019 · In 1928, Joe Maddy and Thaddeus Giddings founded the National High School Orchestra Camp here at Interlochen. In order to make that dream a reality, they needed working capital, and their ‘angel’ appeared in the person of Carl D. Greenleaf, the president of the Conn instrument company.
