So basically yeah, Bujinkan is modernized and used to scam LARPers so it has a deserved bad reputation but that doesn't mean art itself is bad or useless. If there is no legit koryu dojo near and you want to learn some bojutsu and kenjutsu too, Bujinkan is a good choice.
Not legit at all. Ninjutsu died out and was restarted based on historical text from the 1800s; well after the era of the ninja. Ninjas were either assassins or samuri tasked with reconnaissance (think of a modern day cavalry scout or sniper).
Whether you think bujinkan material is legit, that is up to you. That is basically ninjutsu -- using your critical thinking skills to figure shit out, find the right teachers, research, etc. There are so many ninjutsu concepts taught in bujinkan that just wooshes everyone's head because people are idiots.
