24 Ιουν 2019 · Intravenous (IV) therapy is the infusion of fluid directly into the vein of a patient, usually via a cannula. There are various indications for a fluid infusion, including replacement of electrolytes, restoration of blood volume or maintenance in the surgery-staved patient.
Verify the infusion rate of IV fluids is appropriate based on the patient’s age, size, preexisting medical conditions, and prescribed indication. If a manual calculation is needed to set the IV flow rate, calculate the rate and double-check the calculated rate with another registered nurse.

There is a clear need for guidance on IV fluid therapy for general areas of hospital practice, covering both the prescription and monitoring of IV fluid and electrolyte therapy, and the training and educational needs of all hospital staff involved in IV fluid management.
