t. e. Shavuot (listen ⓘ, from Hebrew: שָׁבוּעוֹת, romanized: Šāvūʿōṯ, lit. 'Weeks'), or Shvues (listen ⓘ, in some Ashkenazi usage), is a Jewish holiday, one of the biblically ordained Three Pilgrimage Festivals.
Shavuot (שָׁבוּעוֹת in Hebrew, also pronounced Shavuos) is a two-day Jewish holiday (June 1-3, 2025) that commemorates the date when G‑d gave the Torah to the Jewish people at Mount Sinai over 3,000 years ago.
It is called the “feast of weeks” (Ex. 34:22; Dt. 16:10), the “feast of harvest” (Ex. 23:16), and the “day of the first fruits” (Num. 28:26). The Feast of Shavuot is unique in the seven festivals given to the Jewish people in Leviticus 23 in that it is the only one that does not have a fixed date.
Though it is less observed in modern times than other Jewish holidays, Shavuot marks one of the most important moments in Jewish history, the giving of the Torah on Mount Sinai. This was the moment when, in the Jewish understanding, God’s will was expressly communicated to human beings.

Celebration of Shavuot occurs on the 50th day, or seven weeks, after the sheaf offering of the harvest celebrated during Passover.
10 Μαρ 2017 · Shavuot is one of three pilgrimage feasts that the Jewish people were commanded to observe at the Temple in Jerusalem, and it holds many points of significance. God instructed a holy gathering and declared that no regular work is to be done on Shavuot.
Today, Shavuot is celebrated by Jews around the world through lighting candles each evening, staying up all night to learn Torah, hearing the 10 Commandments in synagogue on the first morning of Shavuot, and the consumption of dairy foods such as cheesecake and blintzes.
