The Kenya Off-Grid Solar Access Project (KOSAP) is a project of the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum (MoEP) and is financed by the World Bank (WB). It aims at providing electricity and clean cooking solutions in the remote, low-density, and traditionally underserved areas of the country.
The State Department for Petroleum was established by the Executive Order No. 1 of 2023 on Organization of the Government of the Republic of Kenya as one of the two State Departments under the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum.
Kenya treats energy security as a matter of national priority. The Third Medium Plan 2017-2022 identifies energy as the country’s driver into “a newly-industrializing, middle-income economy, providing a high quality of life to all its citizens in a clean and secure environment.”
