The original (oil based) Kilz primer/sealer is very good. It effectively blocks all kinds of tough stains from bleeding through, so I use it on tough repaint jobs like cupboards and kitchen walls/ceilings.
Solution: one coat of Kilz or, like, a billion coats of another primer. edit: Kilz's "primer" designation is a little misleading. It isn't really a primer. It is an obliterator, a destroyer of worlds. The effects the OP saw were it working as intended. It is Mutually Assured Destruction. The hail-mary pass that always completes.
I recommend Kilz Restoration. Its water based but covers better than Kilz Classic. In fact, Kilz classic isnt the best primer for anything. There are better smoke sealers out there for around the same price.
13 Απρ 2011 · I used to think of Kilz as a product that would seal stains prior to painting. The latex version doesn't do that, at least not well. I once used the oil base to seal pet urine stains on a plywood sub-floor.
4 Ιαν 2021 · Kilz 2 is a great general purpose primer and should solve most DIY Painter’s priming issues. It’s a great primer to keep on hand for small projects, getting rid of smells, priming small drywall repairs, as well as water and grease stains.
