King penguins act as predators for cephalopods, small fish and squid found in their geographic range, but there is no documentation stating if the populations are controlled by this predation. (Aubin and Jouventin, 1998; Charbonnier, et al., 2009; Emslie, et al., 1995; Lockley, 1984; McGonigal and Woodworth, 2001; Shirihai, 2008)
It arrives at colonies to breed between September and November, forming colonies on flattish beaches free of ice. The annual moult takes place from October until January. The main marine predators of both adults and young are killer whales (Orcinus orca) and leopard seals (Hydrurga leptonyx).
Of course, king penguins also have to watch out for predators of their own. In the ocean, these include orcas, leopard seals, Antarctic fur seals, and South American sea lions .

Predators. KING PENGUINS. Skuas, giant petrels, kelp gulls, and snowy sheathbills frequent king penguin colonies, feeding on unguarded chicks and eggs. Adult penguins defend their chicks ferociously from aerial attacks, vocalizing and slapping predators with their rigid flippers to deter them.
