It is at the beginning of the St. Lawrence River and at the mouth of the Cataraqui River, the south end of the Rideau Canal. Kingston is near the Thousand Islands, a tourist region to the east, and the Prince Edward County tourist region to the
Kingston Map. Kingston is a historic city in eastern Ontario, where the St. Lawrence River meets Lake Ontario and the Rideau Canal. Known as the "Limestone City" for its beautiful 19th-century stone buildings, Kingston is also home to Queen's University and the Royal Military College of Canada.
