I'm founding a small nonprofit and am trying to get a first foot in the door in terms of grant applications. I've reviewed many resources on how to write successful applications but think it will be really helpful to see some examples.
A great grant application (even if unfunded) can be a success if it opens a door to future conversation. Alternatively, you can get an "in" by recruiting a board member who has worked with organizations that have been funded by the foundation in the past.
Even though I have not subscribed, I've reviewed their lists for grant communities that I know well, could figure out the funders they had listed using contextual information, and felt that they were overplaying some of the sources.
Search for foundations or other funding organizations that would support your cause - reach out to the organization and make a connection. Review their websites and see what NPO's they have funded. A few I found:
