Learn about grade level experiential programs here. Place-based education is the process of using the local community and environment as a starting point to teach concepts in language arts, mathematics, social studies, science and other subjects across the curriculum.
The La Paz secondary school experience offers a balance between academically rigorous hands-on classroom instruction in core/co-curricular subjects as well as complementary projects, service learning, and excursions that enrich and authenticate the academic experience through place-based and project-based learning.
Since 2006, we've been funding multicultural initiatives, and what started as short-term projects in Africa has evolved into larger-scale programs. Our primary focus is on our partner program, the La Paz Community School, located in Guanacaste, Costa Rica.
As an authorized IB World School, La Paz exposes students to a rigorous and meaningful academic program that is fundamentally rooted in the La Paz Peace Practices and the IB community profile. Named after the Costa Rican concept of Pura Vida, or the purpose driven life, Pura Vida Education Fund (PVEF) seeks to fund innovative and impactful non-profit educational organizations in Costa Rica. Thus far to date, PVEF has focused on La Paz Community School and Pasitos Day Care.
