Youth under the age of 18 who work in North Carolina must have a Youth Employment Certificate. You may contact the N.C. Department of Labor – Wage and Hour Bureau, Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. at 1-800-625-2267, if you have questions.
Under North Carolina child labor laws, youth must be 14-years-old or older to get a job and work in North Carolina with a few exceptions. North Carolina child labor laws allows 12-year-olds and 13-year-olds to work outside school hours in the delivering newspapers for up to 3 hours each workday.
