PermitLA is the City of Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety (LADBS) application to obtain online permits* for small projects that do not require plan check. For a list of these permits, click the link Online Permits Informational Bulletin.
Design your project and draw plans; Submit plans and complete a permit application at an LADBS office. Note: If your project falls under any of the construction types in Express Permit (pdf), you do not need your plans checked. You may complete a permit application at an LADBS office or online.
Important things to note about LADBS Standard Plan No. 1 are: The intent of this standard plan is to promote public safety and welfare by reducing the risk of earthquake induced damage in existing wood frame residential buildings.
Online Permits and Record Search. The following services are available online: Express Pemits (permits that do not require plan check) at https://permitla.lacitydbs.org/. Search for building records at https://ladbsdoc.lacity.org/. Electronic plan review (ePlanLA) is available for the following types of applications: - Soft-story Retrofit.

KITCHEN REMODEL: The Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety (LADBS) Electronic Permit System allows for the issuance of a "combined" building permit to repair and/or replace cabinets, flooring, wall finishes, tile, counters, and plumbing/electrical fixtures only.
