Access the trail from 53 trailhead park-ing lots every 3–11 miles. The trail is narrow with roots and rocks. Wear sturdy footwear and allow one hour for every one to two miles hiked. Bring water, rainwear, snacks, insect repellant, and a warm layer. Always carry a map when you hike. Dogs are allowed on leash only.
You can access the Trail from 53 trailheads (with parking lots). the traiL is designed for traveL by foot onLy. (Dogs are fine, but only on leash.) Expect rugged terrain, stunning vistas, brilliant fall colors, winter silence, and unforgettable experiences, whether you spend three hours or three weeks on the Trail.
