Elbow bursitis is painful swelling around your elbow joint. It’s inflammation in the olecranon bursa — the fluid-filled sac that surrounds and protects your elbow.
1 Ιαν 2024 · If the olecranon bursa is inflamed then it causes a thickness and swelling over the back of the elbow. The bursa may also fill with fluid and it then looks like a small soft ball. There are two types of olecranon bursitis: Infected (septic). Non-infected (aseptic).
Signs and Symptoms. Swelling or a mass is the first sign of olecranon (elbow) bursitis. Sometimes, the onset of this can be abrupt or gradual. The size of the bursitis can vary. The bursa can be very small, or it can grow to a soft golf ball-size mass at the tip of the elbow (see Figure 2).
