MTV Studios. © Carl Dunn. Located in the heart of Manhattan at 1515 Broadway, One Astor Plaza hasn't always been the headquarters of MTV Studios. The move to hip and trendy New York City didn't take place until 1997, 16 years after the network's launch in 1981.
515 W 57th St. New York New York 10019. When the channel first launched on August 1, 1981, its original purpose was to play music videos curated by "video jockeys". This is the location of the original MTV studio.
