LAUSD recognizes the connection between academic achievement and good nutrition as demonstrated by being a leader in providing school meals of high nutritional quality. Foods available on school premises provide for the nutritional well-being of children and serve as a model for healthy eating.

15 Μαρ 2008 · Our study suggests several lessons from a process evaluation of LAUSDNN, a service-oriented, school-based, nutrition and physical activity promotion effort. First, such an effort shows the potential in recruiting schools serving low socioeconomic status (SES) students of diverse ethnicity.
Our meal programs are structured under the regulatory guidance of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and are served at more than 680 cafeterias, 90 child and adult care centers, and 100+ off-site programs each day.
Outcomes, including fruit and vegetable consumption, consumption of water and sugary drinks, and physical activity, were reported annually to the USDA and to LAUSD Network staff, with detailed recommendations for improvements to the program.
