I. PURPOSE. It is the purpose of this policy to provide specificity to the standards of conduct embodied in the law enforcement officer’s code of ethics1 and this agency’s statement of values and mission, so that officers2 have a clear understanding of agency expectations pertaining to conduct and activities while on and off duty.3. II. POLICY.
The Law Enforcement Code of Ethics is a set of guidelines and principles that governs the behavior and conduct of law enforcement officers, emphasizing integrity, fairness, and professionalism in their duties.
Attempts to distill and prescribe law enforcement ethics at the international level have resulted in the creation of the “Law Enforcement Code of Conduct” of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and the “Code of Conduct for Law Enforcement Officials” of the United Nations (U.N.).
