This guide provides a summary of requirements for Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) applicants with an out-of-state license, and/or an out-of-state or out-of-country degree. “Out-of-State degree” means a degree from a school located outside of California, or from an online program that is not designed to meet California’s requirements.
Below is an overview of the steps to LCSW licensure. The remainder of this handbook will go into more detail about each of these steps. You will not register with the Board as a student, but you need to make sure you are enrolled in a degree program that California will accept toward licensure. For more information, see Part 1.
