23 Σεπ 2012 · Verses 30-37 are chock-full of sermons: Jesus revealing he will suffer, die and rise; disciples’ embarrassment at being caught in a power struggle; a child as the model for discipleship. I will focus on verse 32, the disciples’ lack of understanding, and unwillingness to ask Jesus questions.
Take the passage we heard today from Mark Chapter Nine. In the first section Jesus is explaining to his disciples what is going to happen to him when he goes up to Jerusalem. Verse 31, ‘... The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him.
22 Σεπ 2024 · Though packaged as a single lectionary reading, today’s Gospel is two pericopes situated across two locales: Galilee and Capernaum. In Galilee Jesus continues the teachings that characterize his travels with the disciples.
10 Φεβ 2016 · In one sentence, Jesus completely reverses their concept of greatness: “Whoever wants to be first must be last of all and servant of all” (Mark 9:35). “Great” is no longer primary and above. On the contrary, “great” is least and lowest. Mark gives us glimpses into Jesus’ definition of greatness by showing examples of service.
