The Left Occiput Anterior position is the most common, ideal fetal position (Optimal Foetal Position). The label for optimal fetal position is dependent on the shape of the mother’s pelvic brim. The most common pelvic shape, gynecoid, is associated with an LOA or LOT (LOL in UK, NZ, and AUS) fetal position at the start of labor.
Occiput anterior is usually the easiest position for the fetal head to traverse the maternal pelvis. Shown here is the "direct OA" position. While some fetuses deliver in this position, others deliver slightly rotated clockwise (LOA) or counterclockwise (ROA).

25 Ιαν 2022 · Speaking specifically about the left occiput anterior position (LOA baby position), it is a fetal position, wherein the baby’s head is anterior or down towards the pubic bone, facing toward the mother’s spine, but turned towards the mother’s left side – as shown in the image.

12 Φεβ 2024 · Left anterior refers to the mother’s pelvis. Let’s imagine the pelvis as a clock: The right side is at 3 o’clock. In an LOA position, the back of the baby’s head and the baby’s back are in between the mother’s left hip and pubic bone (around 10:30 on our imaginary pelvic clock).
