6 Νοε 2013 · I thought I’d share the first set of hands on activities we did on levers and the three classes of levers. We started our unit going over the six types of simple machines. Since I have kids of varying levels I made several sheets (matching, tracing and fill in the blanks).
Levers consist of three parts or actions working together: the fulcrum, or where the lever pivots; the load, or the work needed to be done; and the effort, or the force used to do the work.
A visual recipe is a kid-friendly recipe presented in a format that includes pictures representing all the tools, ingredients, and actions needed for each step. These visual cues make it easier for children to follow the recipe and understand the process.
In levers, the effort is applied at a different point from the load. And the position of the fulcrum has an effect on the amount of effort (that is, the push or pull) needed to move a load. For example, the closer the load is to the fulcrum, the less effort you will need to lift it.
