Conclusion: Further research is needed to correlate the increase in Hcy with specific symptoms/ deficits in ASD and to evaluate the clinical impact of strategies that can reduce Hcy concentration in ASD. 6 Ιαν 2018 · There's no evidence that special diets are an effective treatment for autism spectrum disorder. And for growing children, restrictive diets can lead to nutritional deficiencies. If you decide to pursue a restrictive diet, work with a registered dietitian to create an appropriate meal plan for your child.
Reduction of homocysteine levels has been most readily accomplished by supplementation of the diet with the B vitamins (folate, vitamins B 6 and B 12); reductions of up to 39% have been reported. 16 Other therapies, including methionine restriction and exercise training, have also shown modest effects in reducing levels of homocysteine. 17
6 Ιαν 2018 · Each child with autism spectrum disorder is likely to have a unique pattern of behavior and level of severity — from low functioning to high functioning. Some children with autism spectrum disorder have difficulty learning, and some have signs of lower than normal intelligence.
In this review, we describe the heterogeneous disease spectrum of patients with vitamin B12 deficiency in whom the diagnosis was either based on low serum B12 levels, elevated biomarkers like methylmalonic acid and/or homocysteine, or the improvement of clinical symptoms after the institution of parenteral vitamin B12 therapy.
15 Αυγ 2022 · The serum levels of homocysteine were significantly higher (p = 0.0048) in the ASD group than in the control group, while the serum levels of folate (p = 0.003) and vitamin B12 (p = 0.0048) were lower in the ASD group (Figure 1A).
1 Σεπ 2020 · A randomized control trial showed that oral vitamin/mineral supplementation may be considered as a reasonable adjunct therapy for autism by improving the nutritional and metabolic status (including a decrease of blood levels of Hcy) of autistic children and reducing their symptoms (Adams et al., 2011a).
