1 It happened that while Jesus was praying in a certain place, after He had finished, one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray just as John also taught his disciples.” 2 And He said to them, “When you pray, say: ‘Father, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come.
We have a very brief account of it in Luke 11, Verses 2-4. And he said to them, "When you pray, say: "Father, hallowed be thy name. thy kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread; and forgive us our sins, for we ourselves forgive everyone who is indebted to us; and lead us not into temptation."
The teaching in the present section of this Gospel gives help to disciples who need to learn how to pray and encouragement that God will hear and answer their prayers. The disciples’ request for instruction on how to pray (Luke 11:1) resulted in Jesus giving them a pattern prayer (Luke 11:2-4).
