1 Ιουν 2018 · A-B, Chest radiograph (A) and axial CT scan (B) obtained in 22-year-old man initially thought to have a spontaneous pneumothorax. Radiographs and CT scans demonstrated a hydropneumothorax in the right lung and a solitary thick-walled cavity at the right apex.
Radiologic findings. A cavitary lesion may contain gas, fluid or both, in which case there will be a gas-fluid level. A cavity can form within a pre-existing lesion (nodule, mass, or consolidation). It typically has a thick, irregular wall, often with a solid mural component.

It is further characterized by thick walls of greater than 4 mm. 3,4 The differential for these lesions is broad and includes both infectious and non-infectious causes.
30 Σεπ 2019 · Primary lung cancer is the most frequent cause of a solitary cavitary lesion. Squamous cell carcinoma is the most common histologic subtype to cavitate. Lung cancers are more prevalent within the upper lobes and tend to have thick walls with irregular internal contours and focal outer wall indentation.
