In September 2005, she ran into a 21-year-old young man, Zhai Xiaowei. He had lost one leg in an accident when he was four. He was being trained to be a cyclist for the national special Olympics. He had never danced before, but she invited him to become her dance partner. The rest is history.
In 2002, a handsome young man – Tao Li – fell madly in love with her. She ran away from him for fear of being hurt again. After she disappeared in Beijing, Tao searched everywhere for her despite his parents’ strong objection and ridicule. He finally found her dancing in a bar.
Zhai dropped Ma Li more than a thousand times, but as they practiced and practiced, they became professional dancers. Ma Li and Zhai became the first handicapped couple to enter the CCTV national dance competion. They won hearts of MILLIONS!!!!

Ma Li and Tao Xiaowei, Chinese dancers who gained fame after their performance in the 2007 China's National Dance Competition, have moved people around the world to tears. Their expressive ballet, titled "Hand in Hand," showcased their immense talent despite their physical limitations.
