9 Σεπ 2022 · Madiran is only ever a red wine and usually made using a majority of tannat, often blended with a little cabernet franc or cabernet sauvignon or sometimes made as a pure varietal. Tannat thrives here, enjoying the combination of summer heat and abundance of water.
Madiran is one of the oldest wine-growing regions in France. It was already classified in 1948 under the AOC designation Vic-Bilh, at that time still jointly for red wines and white wines. Today, the white wines are produced under the AOC designation Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh.
Madiran is a region in southwestern France renowned for its robust, tannic red wines. It is named after the village of Madiran located in the department of Hautes-Pyrénées, close to the border of Spain.
