Training your lamb to walk on the halter is an important part of preparing for the show ring, and if you only have a few sheep, halter breaking your lambs will make life easier when it comes time to handle your flock, administer worming medicine, trim hooves, etc.
Rope halters are easy to make. They are inexpensive, adjustable, useful in leading and tying, and are quite durable if kept dry. In making your halters, use good quality, three-strand manila rope. Use the table as a guide for selecting the right size and amount of rope.
After using the colour-coded halter, try practising with a normal halter. The halter is ready made; it is also useful to learn how to make a halter from a piece of rope. There is a video available on Blackboard demonstrating fitting a halter.
22 Ιουν 2019 · If you must use a halter, bundle any excess lead length and secure it with a rubber band to avoid having a dangling lead. A better method is to place one hand beneath the jaw of your animal and the other hand behind the ears.

Always make sure the halter is properly positioned high up on the bridge of the nose so that it won’t cut off airflow if the animal balks/resists leading. Check the fit of the halter daily—these animals can grow fast, and you do not want a halter squeezing the animal too tightly.
If these behaviours are persistent despite the use of a skin, fostering crate or halter, then it is probably best to separate the ewe and lamb, and move the lamb onto an artificial rearing system. Rearing orphan lambs
