7 Ιουν 2024 · These noises can drown out the ocean’s natural orchestra, posing threats to animals that depend on sound for mating and survival. Now, climate change is altering the temperature and chemistry...
1 Μαρ 2022 · It has been investigated in distinct shallow water environments with high anthropization. However, the main sources of noise are man-made signals (Parbery-Clark et al., 2009), which can be either continuous or intermittent; occupying mainly low-frequency bands (Kuta and Richardson, 1996).
Carbon-14, C-14, 14 C or radiocarbon, is a radioactive isotope of carbon with an atomic nucleus containing 6 protons and 8 neutrons. Its presence in organic matter is the basis of the radiocarbon dating method pioneered by Willard Libby and colleagues (1949) to date archaeological, geological and hydrogeological samples.
1 Οκτ 2015 · The results indicate that the effects of anthropogenic noise can be short-lived and potentially suggest that instant reduction in anthropogenic noise output may decrease direct detrimental effects of man-made noise (Bruintjes, unpublished data).
4 Φεβ 2021 · Noise from shipping, construction, sonar and seismic surveys is "drowning out" the healthy ocean soundscape, scientists say. And an "overwhelming body of evidence" has revealed the harm...
17 Αυγ 2016 · Ocean acidification has led to a decrease in pH, which reduces the absorption of sound in oceans, making them noisier by decreasing sound-absorbing abilities for low frequencies [79,80]. Increasing temperatures, on the other hand, lead to a decrease of the speed at which sound travels.
Sound is the most efficient means of communicating underwater, especially for many marine species. NOAA Fisheries works to better understand how marine animals use sound and the potential impacts of man-made noise on the underwater environment.
