Alor Gajah terletak 19 kilometer dari bandaraya Melaka. Antara Tahun 1832 hingga 1937, sebelum jatuh ke tangan Melaka, bandar ini dahulunya terletak di dalam daerah Tampin, Negeri Sembilan.
