Barbara Ann Mikulski (/ mɪˈkʌlski / mih-CULL-skee; born July 20, 1936) is an American politician and social worker who served as a United States senator from Maryland from 1987 to 2017. A member of the Democratic Party, she also served in the United States House of Representatives from 1977 to 1987.

The longest serving woman in Congressional history, Sen. Mikulski served for five years on the Baltimore City Council; ten years in the US House of Representatives; and 30 in the US Senate.
Barbara Ann Mikulski of Maryland has dedicated her life to public service. Born and raised in Baltimore, Mikulski trained as a social worker. She won her first election to the Baltimore City Council in 1971 and five years later, won a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.
