8 Οκτ 2017 · Western State Mental Hospital, located near Bolivar, was the last state mental hospital to be constructed and habitually the one least funded. In December 1885 the site commissioners chose the farm of Paul T. Jones as the location for the proposed facility.
3 Αυγ 2020 · By 1892, 319 patients were living in the mental hospital. Entertainment, work, diet, and discipline were still considered the main types of therapy. In 1900 the hospital was overcrowded with 594 patients. It was continually being modernized and around 1910 a new wing was built.

13 Αυγ 2011 · West Tennessee Hospital for the Insane (now Western Mental Health Institute) in Bolivar opened with the transfer of 156 patients from Nashville in 1889. By 1939, the institute occupied a tract of 640 acres and had accommodations for 1,850 patients.
5 Μαρ 2008 · Western State Mental Hospital at Bolivar, Tennessee, was indeed built on the Kirkbride Plan. It was designed by the McDonald Brothers architectural firm of Louisville, Kentucky, and built from 1886-1889. The west wing was the female ward; the east wing the male ward.
