You're on the right track. Highest G force is a combination of high speed and tightest radius. Some corners are just barely taken flat out, but have wider radii and are on faster tracks where teams run less downforce (eg parabolica at monza).
So during braking from high speed you get max. deceleration (g-force) for a initial moment. During cornering you get lower g forces but for a much longer time. Generally they are just about equal, the limitation is the tire and track surface.

When drivers manoeuvre through high-speed corners, they are subjected to lateral or side-to-side G-forces that push them towards the side of the car.
