After four years of relationship with Prince, they got married in 1996 on St. Valentine’s Day and had a child Amiir Gregory Nelson. But, their child died six days after birth as he could not breathe due to Pfeiffer Syndrome (a genetic disorder). After a subsequent miscarriage, their marriage relation got butter, and finally, they divorced in 2000.
Born in Alabama to parents of Puerto Rican descent, Mayte grew up all over the United States and in Germany (due to her father’s career in the military), and spent her summers in Puerto Rico with her extended family.
