30 Μαΐ 2019 · Looking down the bore of my McGowen vs my two higher end barrels is enlightening. The two high-end (cut-rifling) barrels are smooth and the McGowen has a lot of imperfections/tooling marks/pits. In defense of the McGowen though, it shoots amazing.
30 Σεπ 2022 · take a look at what the pros use for prs, or what the top gunsmiths/custom builders in the country are spinning up, and you'll find zero mention of mcgowen. IMO, they're a replacement barrel, like a pacnor, not a custom barrel like a bartlien, kreiger, lilja, etc. That's not completely accurate.
12 Δεκ 2020 · I have heard a mix bag of reviews on the McGowen barrels. I ordered one last year simply because of the lead times on when I needed it. I have been able to work up loads in that 3/4 MOA range without a ton of trouble.
28 Σεπ 2010 · An endmill, guided by a CNC machining center, cuts a slot in a McGowen barrel. Barrels from McGowen are currently all button rifled, but starting in 2011 cut rifled barrels will become a standard offering as well.
8 Φεβ 2023 · I purchased a 6.5 creedmoor prefit barrel from McGowan for a Savage. The barrel never met my accuracy standards. I tried 143 eldx 140 eldm 140 vld 130 vld and 127 barnes out of that barrel. The best shooting bullet out of it was the 127 and that was mediocre at best.
23 Νοε 2010 · A contoured McGowan CM barrel is $185, the same Shilen barrel is $200 and from Krieger is $285. Spend the extra money and you don't have to worry about getting a bad one. I've had very good results with Shilen barrels and no one (or not many) have ever had a bad barrel from Krieger.
21 Αυγ 2020 · I have a mcgowan on my 300wm. As others have said, reviews show that mcgowen in the past was hit or miss on quality. If i remember my research correctly, i had found an ownership change sometime around 2010-2014. My order was in 2017. Got the barrel screwed on using their barrel nut and it shoots great. 1.
