This unit was designed to provide 28-volt DC 1500 amp, 115/220-volt AC three-phase electrical power for B-47 aircraft for ground operation and start. It also can be used with other aircraft (such as the T-33) that have power requirements compatible with its output.
Beech C-26, MD-3, MD-3A Generator Set Generator Set USAF, Operating & Service Instructions (part# 35C2-3-304-1)

The MD-3 Ground Power unit is a portable generator designed to provide either DC or AC power to aircraft while on the ground. It is powered by a 180 hp Continental engine to drive its generators.
MD-3 Ground Power Unit (multiple) I photographed these MD-3 Ground Power Unit on display at Robins AFB and the NMoUSAF in Dayton, OH. The MD-3 was used for powering up large aircraft such as the B-47 Stratojet or smaller planes like the T-33 Shooting Star with compatible requirements.
General Description. The BC16/18 range of generators is of brushless rotating field design, available up to 660V/50Hz (1500 rpm, 4 pole and 3000 rpm, 2 pole) or 60Hz (1800 rpm, 4 pole and 3600 rpm, 2 pole), and built to meet B.S. 5000 Part 3 and international standards.
The MD-3 ground power unit was used throughout the 50s and 60s to generate electric power for starting up engines of such USAF aircraft as were the B-47, T-33 and many others with the same power requirements. The master parts of our kit have been 3D designed and produced on a 3D printer.
