Apply Online for Extra Help. You can call us at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) to apply over the phone. You can also request a paper application, or you can schedule an appointment to apply at your local Social Security office.
Under these programs, states help pay for Medicare Part A and Part B premiums, deductibles and copayments. Some of these programs also pay additional Medicare expenses for elderly and disabled people. To find out if you are eligible for state help, contact your local medical assistance office.
Medicare beneficiaries who do not meet the deemed eligible criteria still may be eligible for the subsidy (also known as Extra Help) based on their resources, income, and household size. These beneficiaries must file an application for Extra Help to see if they qualify.
If you don’t get a notice from Medicare or Social Security, you’ll keep your Extra Help and same drug plan for next year. Note: If you don’t automatically qualify for Extra Help next year, you may still be able to save on your Medicare drug costs. You need to apply for Extra Help to find out.
