Melting glaciers add to rising sea levels, which in turn increases coastal erosion and elevates storm surge as warming air and ocean temperatures create more frequent and intense coastal storms like hurricanes and typhoons.
Glaciers are responsible for much of the global rise we see today. But past glaciers are also causing big differences in sea level rise from place to place. Glaciers are rivers of ice. You’ll find them in places where snow falls in winter and doesn’t melt entirely in summer.
