A mentee must (1) have at least 10 years of current experience as a licensed lawyer in California; (2) be in good standing with the State Bar; and (3) be committed to public service. Those from legal backgrounds and communities underrepresented in the judiciary are particularly encouraged to apply.
Mentoring is a mutual relationship between individuals and benefits both Mentors and Mentees. Mentees receive benefits such as: • Encouragement, support and affirmation of their decision to seek a position on the bench • The opportunity to explore new ideas and alternatives in attaining that goal
What are the eligibility criteria for mentees in the California Judicial Mentor Program (Appellate)? How much individual time from mentors can mentees expect to receive? What kind of information can mentees expect to receive from their mentors? Is there an optimal “profile” for someone who is applying for an appellate vacancy?
The Task Force was designed to bring together the State Bar Sections, the California Young Lawyers Association (“CYLA”), the Council on Access & Fairness and the Board of Trustees to explore, create and develop mentoring programs and initiatives for young or new lawyers.
The Court will pair admitted mentees with a mentor judge. The mentor judge will help demystify the judicial appointment process, answer questions about the judicial application and vetting process, and suggest new skills and experiences to improve the mentee's suitability for appointment.

Help mentees to navigate daily challenges. Improve a youth’s attitude towards parents, teachers and peers. Focus on the importance of education and highlight career path options.
This program is designed to assist in career and skill development by transfer of knowledge and experience as well as activities to further enhance competency development. The CDTFA Mentoring Program will allow mentees to gain knowledge resulting from one-on-one relationships with mentors.
